Anchors to Something, and to Something Else
Mixed media paintings (gouche, acrylic, chalk pastel and polaroid prints) and collage on plywood panels 5" x 7". Created during art residency at Vanha Paukku Cultural Center, Finland , 2019. Featuring embroidered second-hand linen curtain.
Anchors to Something, and to Something Else explores the fragmentary, metaphysical state of consciousness- and investigates the role memory plays in constructing and deconstructing the self. Memory cannot exist without the other- everything connected to it seeks to prove it exists in itself. Place, object and moment - these are all anchored in the self; archived internally and digitally; preserved and utilised physically. We are surrounded by physical, technological and emotional anchors to past, to people, and to present. I make sense of myself, my relationships and my life by tapping into this matrix of anchors. I actively create them, conceal them, save them, and use them when needed. Featured in this project are mixed media plywood panels and embrioderies.
